Malware. Ransomware. Spyware. What are cyber threats and are you protected?

We’ve all heard of cyber attacks, right? In simple words, a cyber attack is any attempt to gain unauthorized access to a computer, computing system or computer network with the intent to cause damage. Cyber attacks aim to disable, disrupt, destroy or control computer systems or to alter, block, delete, manipulate or steal the data held within these systems.

Phishing is one of the most common cyber-attacks. According to the FBI, in 2020 there were a recorded 241,324 incidents. These attacks are particularly common as they are easy to carry-out and surprisingly effective. Phishing is a type of social engineering attack often used to steal user data, including login credentials and credit card numbers.

Phishing attacks often appear in the form of an email disguised as a legitimate organization, such as your bank or some other trusted entity. Users should be particularly vigilant when accessing the legitimacy of emails from who you think might be genuine. Look out for subtle mistakes like spelling errors or changes to domain names, i.e the email it came from or the website URL.

However, sometimes these cyber attacks can be so thought out and appear completely legitimate, it’s hard to know! Thanks to Plume HomePass, C3 has our residential customers protected from all kinds of cyber threats.
